Description

This class is full.  We may have a couple of spots open up and if you would like to be put on a waitlist please email Sarah Harbaugh at iafsm@illinoisfloods.org.

Join us for an intensive three-day workshop designed to provide hands-on instruction in SRH-2D modeling. Whether you're new to 2D modeling or looking to refine your skills, this workshop will cover foundational concepts and advanced techniques to help you effectively use Sedimentation and River Hydraulics for two-dimensional hydraulic modeling.

Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling of Rivers at Highway Encroachments (135095) provides participants with instruction to understand and appropriately apply 2D hydraulic models of rivers in highway encroachment situations.

Workshop Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the differences between 1D and 2D hydraulic models
  • Use background data in SMS for 2D modeling projects
  • Use SMS to setup and run 2D models
  • Generate and review 2D model results
  • Insert structures into 2D models
  • Evaluate 2D hydraulic parameters for use in bridge scour analysis

Who Should Attend:

The target audience for this course is FHWA and state Department of Transportation hydraulics personnel and other Federal, state, local or consulting engineers who have responsibility for, or desire to work with, the hydraulic analysis and design of highway river crossings. Course participants should have knowledge of the fundamentals of open channel flow hydraulics.
